Zero Waste Clutch
This zero waste clutch is a colorful expression of my commitment to reduce textile waste and a fun and fashionable way to accessorize. It’s like graffiti and tweed had a baby or Jackson Pollock became a textile designer!
I always sort my production scraps and test ways to reuse them. The tiniest pieces would typically be thrown in the trash by other brands but I challenged myself to create something useful with them and I was able to transform them into an entirely new textile!
For this style of clutch, I used the trimmings that occur as I cut seam allowances and hems during garment construction. If you look carefully you can see the zig zags made by my pinking shears.
Because I start with high quality fabrics, these are a combination of 100% silk, a silk and wool blend, Cupro lining and deadstock brocade. I assemble them onto a fusible cotton, add a layer of thrifted tulle and use a zig zag stitch to keep it all in place.
The lining is a scrap of light pink Cupro, a sustainable, non petroleum based fabric created from cotton seed waste and the tag is made from recycled polyester.
The interior is large enough for your phone, keys, sunglasses, a mini sunscreen and various daily items. It also makes a great travel organizer for your passport and other necessities.
Each purchase helps me keep textile waste out of the landfill and supports a small, woman owned business instead of fast fashion. Together we can clean up fashion and look fabulous!
Each clutch measures 10.5” x 6”.
